To answer your question, all spirit readers work differently.  You can go to a spirit reader who you're drawn to, someone who fits your personality, someone who is authentic, experienced, who works with honesty, integrity, who has an excellent reputation and someone you trust.   Don't, however, go into a session with distrust or skepticism, where you want to test the space holder or spirit world, because that only blocks the communication.  You need to be open and  honest with yourself, the spirit world and the reader. We are all energy, and the energy between the client and the space holder is vital so the communication between all three can flow with ease.
